About The Director
Name: Jahi Adu Mbwana Age: 44 Birth Place: New Orleans, Louisiana Marital Stats: Married Education: Bachelor of Arts Degree Fashion Design, American Intercontinental University, Atlanta. 1990 Military Service: United States Marine Corps; 1983-87 Occupation: Systems Supervisor; Sevananda Natural Foods Cooperative 467 Moreland Ave Atlanta, Georgia. Job Description: Provides in-house support for software and hardware. Provide training and troubleshooting for all staff members. Install and upgrade software as necessary. Maintain adequate computer-virus protection for all vulnerable store computer systems, and perform periodic updates of virus definitions. Work with Member Services Manager on improvements to membership database files and information. Research state-of-the-art technologies regarding POS systems, scanning, and computerization of associated topics. How I Got Started At Sevananda: I began working with Sevananda as a part-time cashier in the spring of 2000. I started working there shortly after holding a full-time job as a computer operator for a major bank, transferring and depositing hundreds of thousands of dollars via electronic transmission. One afternoon the bank manager called me and 20 of my fellow co-workers in the human resources office and informed us that our services were no longer needed. Just like that. Best Part Of My Job: Diversity and the cooperative spirit. The depth of diversity at Sevananda is overwhelming. As far as religious beliefs, we have Buddhism, Hinduism, Christianity, Judaism, Baha’i faith, Islam, Sikhism, Nuwaubians, Rastafarian, Hebrew Israelites and atheism. We also have nontraditional dietary habits such as vegans (nothing consumed that had a face; such as meat, milk cheese, eggs, fish, and even honey), basic vegetarians (some consume milk, eggs and fish), and raw foodists (living foodists eat all fruits, vegetables, sprouts, nuts, seeds, grains, sea vegetables and other live foods without cooking it, which destroys enzymes). I love working in a cooperative because of its principles. A cooperative is an autonomous association of people united voluntarily to meet their common economic, social and cultural needs and aspirations through a jointly owned and democratically controlled enterprise. |
